Ramona Farms is a Pima Indian owned and operated farming operation located on the Gila River Indian Reservation in Arizona. Terry and Ramona Button began farming in 1974 on Ramona's mother's 10 acre plot, harvesting barley and alfalfa. After expanding a few years later we added cotton, corn and wheat. In the late 1970's, some of the elders in the community asked us to grow the Ba:fv (tepary bean). It had nearly become extinct due to the lack of water which put many of the local subsistence farmers out of business. Ramona's father had saved some seeds so we decided to 'bring the bean back' to the community. We were able to get started with a few seeds of each color, white and brown, and learned how to produce the beans on a small scale. Once perfected, we were able to develop our bean project into a larger enterprise and market it to the local community. We now offer the tepary bean in 2 different colors and multiple package sizes as well as other American Indian food crops. Welcome to Ramona Farms.
